FREEDOM BLVD. RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT

The Freedom Boulevard Reconstruction Project is currently under construction. Improvements include replacing curb, gutter and sidewalk and reconstructing the roadway on Freedom Boulevard between West High Street and Broadis Street and on a portion of Lincoln Street where it intersects with Freedom Boulevard. Much of the curb, gutter and sidewalk have been replaced on the west side of Freedom Boulevard and the contractor has crossed the street and has begun work on the east side.

Weather permitting, the concrete work will be completed in November and road reconstruction will begin. To maintain traffic in both directions, the road will be reconstructed one-half at a time. The entire project is expected to be completed by February.

WHAT'S NEXT?

After the Freedom Boulevard Reconstruction project is completed, the City will begin discussions with the electric, telephone and television companies to remove the existing overhead wires and install them in the underground conduit and boxes that were installed recently. This is known as a "Rule 20A Project" and will take three to five years to plan and design. Not only are the utility poles and wires in the street removed, but the service connections from the street to the buildings are changed from overhead to underground. This will require coordination between the City and the individual property owners and tenants.  If you have any questions regarding this project, please contact Murray Fontes at 831-768-3117.
